How do I deal with limescale on a butler sink?

A bright farmhouse kitchen with a white butler sink set into a wooden worktop, a brass bridge tap and a window above.

The answer

Wipe the sink and tap dry after use to reduce build-up, and descale occasionally with a product approved by the sink's maker. Different materials react differently to acids and abrasives, so check the care instructions first, test a small area and rinse thoroughly afterwards. In hard-water areas, regular wiping is easier than a deep clean, and darker matt composite surfaces show deposits more readily than glossy white ceramic.
