Can I have a butler sink and a dishwasher?

A bright farmhouse kitchen with a white butler sink set into a wooden worktop, a brass bridge tap and a window above.

The answer

Yes. Many households use both, with the dishwasher taking crockery and cutlery while the deep sink handles large pans, trays and food preparation. In that case a single large bowl is often the most useful layout. Plan the cabinet layout carefully so the sink, the machine and their pipework and waste connections all fit, and ask your installer to check the space beneath the bowl before you order.
